One of Sonic the Hedgehog’s key beliefs is the importance of freedom, which in turn fuels his hatred of oppression.

The IDW comics expand upon this by positing that this extends to him also being against the idea of taking someone’s life. As he believes that part of freedom is the freedom to change. Therefore, he doesn’t want to take the choice to change from anyone by killing them.
